10/04/2011 2 - 1 Win Against Dearn Dragons
The Mavericks rounded off a great season with a hard fought away win against Dearne Dragons.

Despite a promising start by the Mavericks, it was the home side that went into an early lead. But the Mavericks were soon on level terms when a Harry Andrews free kick reached Matthew Kitchener who's unstoppable drive found the bottom right hand corner. James Priestley then netted his first of the season with a superb left foot shot which sailed over the keeper to make it 2-1, Matthew Kitchener this time providing the cross.

The whole team battled away in an attempt to increase the lead, with Joe Braithwaite and Byron Ivall unlucky not to score. But the home side had their moments too, especially in the second half, and keeper Ben Briggs was again in inspired form, pulling off a magnificent one handed save to preserve the lead. The Mavericks defence was also rock solid with Matthew Davies again in the thick of it and after a late charge by the Dragons the final whistle went with the away side grabbing their third win in a row. It was a fitting end to the season which saw the whole team improving and growing in confidence. Well done lads!!!!

20/03/2011 5 - 1 Win Against Ackworth Juniors
The Mavericks achieved back to back wins for the first time this season with a convincing win at home against Ackworth.

The goal fest started with only ten minutes on the clock when Toby Whistlecroft sent Matthew Kitchener clean through to round the keeper with ease for goal number one. Sam Rolph then set up Joe Braithwaite to fire an unstoppable long range pile driver from 20 yards to make it two as the Mavericks began to dominate. Ackworth then gave themselves a lifeline, netting from a free kick which seemed to rejuvenate the opposition, but good work from defenders Sam Rolph and Matthew Barraclough ensured Ackworth were in for a frustrating afternoon.

In the second half the Mavericks continued to impress with Lee Hinchcliffe and Toby Whistlecroft in particularly good form with some great passing moves. Goal number three soon came when Matthew Kitchener was brought down in the box, Joe Braithwaite smacking in the spot kick. Matthew Davies then rose above everyone to head in the forth and the rout was complete when Harry Lockwood flicked a neat ball to Lewis Thornton to fire in goal number five.

27/02/2011 2 - 4 Loss To Shafton Juniors
The Mavericks went close to producing the shock of the season as they played out an exciting game against top runners, Shafton Juniors, but just missed out after a couple of late goals.

The game started badly for the home side when Shafton went into the lead from a corner but the Mavericks soon turned it around when Harry Andrews struck with a trade mark free kick from the half way line, the ball deceiving all including the goal keeper to land neatly in the back of the net. Joe Braithwaite also had a hand in it by challenging the keeper which forced the mistake.

The Mavericks then began to turn on the style and nearly made it two when Matthew Davies headed a Harry Andrews corner kick which just shaved the post. Shafton too had their moments and struck the bar after a neat break, but the home side weren't finished yet as Matthew Kitchener netted their second after Harry Lockwood's blistering shot rebounded off the bar.

In the second half and with the rain in their faces the Mavericks came under severe pressure from Shafton, who weren't used to being on the receiving end of a footballing lesson. James Priestley and Toby Whistlecroft put in a great effort throughout the match and Matthew Davies put on a typically solid performance, holding everything together at the back. Keeper Ben Briggs was again on hand with a couple of top drawer saves as the Mavericks tried to hang on to their lead.

With only a few minutes to go Shafton eventually got the breakthrough and scored three quick goals to win the match, but the Mavericks can at least say that they gave them a run for their money.

20/02/2011 4 - 2 Win Against South Kirkby Knights
The Mavericks put on a great show with a cracking win at home to South Kirkby Knights

Right from the off, the home team looked sharp and full of confidence as both Ryan Heathcote and new boy Matthew Kitchener threatened early on. Toby Whistlecroft and Harry Andrews began to take command in mid-field as the Mavericks dominated possession and the lads got their just reward when the Matthew Barraclough, who put in a marvellous performance, surged forward to release Lewis Thornton down the right and deliver a great ball for Ryan Heathcote to ram in from 5 yards.

Matthew Kitchener then showed his class with a lovely run down the right flank and a rasping shot against the post, fortunately Conor Remington was on hand to lash in the rebound after the opposition defence had momentarily switched off.

South Kirkby were still a team to be reckoned with however and grabbed a goal back just before the break.

The Mavericks continue to impress in the second period and soon improved their tally when Matthew Kitchener latched on to a great ball from Ryan Heathcote and fired a wonderful shot into the top right hand corner.

The best however was left till last as that man Matthew Kitchener picked up the ball deep in his own half and carved his way through to scored his second and the Mavericks fourth of the afternoon.

South Kirkby then went on to grab another but the win was secured following some top saves from keeper Ben Briggs and solid defending from James Priestley and Harry Lockwood.

16/01/2011 0 - 2 Loss To Dearn Dragons
The Mavericks were unfortunate to loose against one of the best teams in the division after a battling performance against Dearne Dragons.

Both teams had their chances in the first half, the Mavericks best falling to Conor Remington sending a left foot bullet straight at the keeper who did well to hold on to it. Joe Donald also had a shot saved following a nice move down the left. Byron Ivall and Matthew Davies were again in great form, challenging for every ball and starving the opposition of any significant possession.

The teams went in at half time all square with all to play for.

In the second half the Mavericks were forced to defend in numbers and were saved by the bar and post in quick succession. Despite some truly magnificent defending, notably from super right back Sam Rolph, the Dragons grabbed a couple of late goals. However, the home side battled on against the wind and all credit to them for a great effort against a handy side.

09/01/2011 1 - 1 Draw With Royston Dynamos
The Mavericks continued their unbeaten run with another solid performance against local rivals Royston Dynamos.

The first half belonged to the Mavericks, with Lee Hinchcliffe, Harry Andrews and Matthew Davies all going close. The home side were eventually rewarded for their efforts when Lee Hinchcliffe picked up a loose ball at the edge of the area and sent a wonderful looping shot over the keeper to make it 1-0.

The Mavericks could have double their lead a short time afterwards following a hand ball in the area, but unfortunately Harry Andrews uncharacteristically blasted the resulting spot kick over the bar.

Royston then grabbed an equaliser on the stroke of half time and the teams went in at half time with the score at 1-1

The Mavericks were put under increasing pressure in the second half, but James Priestley and Toby Whistlecroft put in great performances to counter the ever threatening Dynamos attack.

To their credit the home side pushed on and nearly grabbed the winner when a Matthew Davies corner was headed just wide of the post by Joe Braithwaite, but it wasn't to be and the final whistle blew with the score at 1-1

02/01/2011 2 - 2 Draw With Ardsley Athletic
After a long break because of the recent bad weather and Christmas period, the Mavericks kicked off the New Year with a cracking game at home to Ardsley.

After a few early exchanges, the Mavericks went in front when Joe Braithwaite shot down the right and put in a superb cross which the keeper failed to handle, allowing Lee Hinchcliffe to fire into the back of the net at close range.

Their lead was nearly cancelled out shortly after when an Ardsley player was brought down in the box. However, the home crowd needn't have worried, since keeper Lewis Thornton had a 100% record saving penalties for the Mavericks, and sure enough as the spot kick was taken the ball sailed majestically over the barª.with possibly a faintest of touches from the in form keeper.

Ardsley then grabbed a goal back with a neat move down the middle, but the Mavericks were determined not to lose control of the match and Joe Donald came close following up a rebounded pile driver from Harry Andrews. Then, against the run of play, Ardsley scored a second and the teams went in at half team with the score at 2-1 to Ardsley.

In the second half the Mavericks worked hard to find a breakthrough. Growing in confidence, the whole team passed the ball well and began to restrict the opposition in all areas of the park. The likes of Sam Rolph and Matthew Barraclough took control at the back whilst Ryan Heathcote and Ben Briggs made their mark up front.

With time running out Matthew Davies was on hand in a centre forward position to slot in a great goal from just inside the box to ensure the Mavericks got a deserved equaliser and the game ended all square at 2-2

07/11/2010 1 - 5 Loss To Wombwell Juniors
The Mavericks were again on their travels, this time against a useful Wombwell Juniors side, and despite a solid performance were beaten 5 -1

The first half began as a fairly even affair with both sides having their chances. Stand-in keeper Matthew Davies kept the opposition at bay with a number of great saves but was unable to keep it up when Wombwell hit two in quick succession to make it 2-0 at half time.

In the second half the Mavericks bounced back in typical style when Conor Remington held up a long free kick from Harry Andrews for Joe Braithwaite to brilliantly fire past the keeper to make it 2-1. The Mavericks then began to apply more and more pressure with Joe Donald and Ryan Heathcote making life difficult for the Juniors up front. There was also some great defending particularly from Byron Ivall, who didn½t put a foot wrong throughout the entire match, with typically valiant support from Matthew Barraclough and Sam Rolph.

Wombwell then hit back with three quick-fire strikes but the Mavericks didn½t give up and both Harry Lockwood and Conor Remington went close towards the end.

31/10/2010 2 - 1 Win Against Ardsley Athletic
The Mavericks had the better of the early exchanges in their away match against Ardsley Athletico coming close to breaking the deadlock on several occasions. After a couple of goalmouth scrambles the Mavericks finally took a deserved lead aided by the opposition, good work from Toby Whistlecroft on the right wing led to his cross being deflected into goal by an Ardsley defender, 1 - 0 to the Mavericks. The home team fought hard to get back into the game and managed an equaliser shortly before half time.

The Mavericks came out strongly in the second half. Almost immediately Joe Braithwaite's strike from distance looked in all the way until the home keeper produced an unlikely but stunning save. Both Conor Remington and Harry Andrews also went close as the Mavericks dominated proceedings. A goal looked on the cards and eventually it came from Harry Andrews who's well placed shot from the outside the box struck the inside of the post on it's way to the back of the net, 2-1 to the Mavericks. Few chances followed but The Mavericks keeper Lewis Thornton was called into action and produced a marvellous save to keep the slender lead.

24/10/2010 1 - 3 Loss To Nostell Miners
The Mavericks were unlucky to go down 3-1 considering their spirited performance against Nostel Miners.

It was the Mavericks that started the brighter in the first half with Harry Andrews steaming down the right flank to unleash a pile driver against the top of the bar. Two minutes later they were in front, Toby Whistlecroft steering a loose ball towards the path of Harry Andrews who this time made it count with an unstoppable shot to the bottom right.

Nostel then rallied and were back on level terms after the Mavericks were caught on the break. Lee Hinchcliffe nearly regained the advantage just on half time when his shot flashed narrowly over the bar. The first half ended all square at 1-1 with all to play for.

The Mavericks came out in the second half with renewed confidence, Joe Donald and James Priestly in particular playing some impressive stuff in the mid field, also Harry Lockwood and Byron Ivall making their mark in defence with some great challenges against a physical home side. Conor Remington had the best chance of the half when his shot flashed just wide following his great run down the left.

Despite a brilliant penalty save from keeper Lewis Thornton the Mavericks conceded a couple of late goals, against the run of play, with Nostel eventually taking the win. However, the Mavericks can be encouraged by their effort & commitment in all areas of the field and their performance today reinforces the view that all the opposition this season are there to be beaten

03/10/2010 2 - 1 Win Against Moorthorpe Rangers
The Mavericks notched up their first win of the season with a fine battling display against Moorthorpe.

The home side started brightly, passing the ball well especially through the mid-field, new recruit Toby Whistlecroft and Ryan Heathcote in particular bamboozling the opposition with some nice exchanges down the right. Harry Andrews was unlucky not to score when his sizzling shot rattled off the inside of the post to safety. This seemed to wake the visitors up as they began to probe the Mavericks defence; Sam Rolph and Matthew Barraclough were up to the challenge however, putting in some great tackles to avert the danger.

Moorthorpe went into the lead with a well worked header, but just before half time Ben Briggs held up a through ball for Conor Remmington to slam home the equaliser with a well time right foot drive.

The Mavericks battled on in the second half despite the tricky conditions with the whole team working hard as a unit to close down the opposition. Matthew Davies was typically inspirational in defence, backed up his fellow defenders. Keeper Lewis Thornton also played his part with a faultless display in goal. With the game drawing to a close the opposition became more a more frustrated and the Mavericks sensed a win was on the cards. The winner eventually came when a log free kick from Harry Andrews found Matthew Davies positioned perfectly to stroke the ball past a stranded keeper to make the final score 2-1 to the Mavericks.

19/09/2010 1 - 2 Loss To Ackworth Juniors
The Mavericks continued their promising start to the season with an impressive display away against Ackworth.

The game started at a fast tempo with some stylish passing through midfield leading to a number of half chances with both Conor Remington and Harry Andrews going close. Despite early pressure however the Mavericks found themselves 1-0 down when Ackworth found the net from a loose ball after new keeper Lewis Thornton had made a class save from a long range effort. This didn't seem to unsettle the away side though and within a few minutes they were back on level terms when a pin point corner from Joe Braithwate found Lee Hinchcliffe who's low drive was turned in nicely by Ben Briggs to make it 1-1 at half time with everything to play for.

The second half was dominated by the Mavericks with the whole team playing their socks off creating endless chances whilst maintaining a solid defence. Joe Donald and Ryan Heathcote began to tear into the opposition defence down the right, but the final touch eluded them. Matthews Davies and Conor Remington also went close in the final minutes but the game was snatched from them when an Ackworth shot was adjudged to be over the line after striking the post. There's no doubt however that a win is just around the corner if the Mavericks can put in the same kind of performance as they did today.
