Paul Shirtliff
1962 - 2009

As you may know Paul Shirtliff died this weekend aged only 46 after losing his battle against cancer.

As a mark of respect I would be grateful if the Club would show their respect with a minutes silence before your game this weekend.

Paul was one of the founding parents of the Mavericks and a great supporter of the all the teams, showing great interest in the whole club right up to the last time we had a chat. After supporting as a parent for a number of years Paul became a coach helping me out for three years with my boys team in which both our lads Rikki and Jamie played.

Paul was a great supporter of the club at meetings, events and social gatherings and enjoyed the local community spirit of the club. He took great delight in watching the younger age groups and in particular the girls teams and he often commented to me how he felt he had given something back to the community with his involvement with the Mavericks.

Even after his involvement with the Mavericks ended as a coach and a parent he could often be seen in Mapplewell Park watching a game or two. Even though his health was deteriorating his first question to me on the phone would always be “how are the girls doing?” as he was always interested in the Mavericks and the progress they were making.

I would therefore be grateful if you could arrange for a minutes silence as a mark of respect for Paul this weekend.

Condolences may be left at the Sheffield Wednesday Support Club where he played by clicking here

Thank you
