With key player Sharndelle Firth ill the Mavericks were up against it before the kick off against a talented Huddersfield Town side. The Mavericks battled hard but couldn't break through Huddersfields resilient defence. Megan Bostwick and Tia Mennell dida great job in defence whilst Georgina Senior and Darcie Leech both played out of their normal positions and worked together well up front. The Mavericks came out on the losing side in a high scoring match at Mapplewell Park. The Mavericks got off on the wrong footing when star striker Lydia Wilson had to go in goal after an injury to the regular keeper. Without Wilson being upfront to help Sharndelle Firth the Mavericks struggled to get into the game with Horsforth St Margarets being well on top by half time. A much improved performance in the second half occurred when Sarah Newsome went in goal and the Mavericks replied with 5 goals. A lateburst though from Horsforth had them run out 12 - 5 winners. After a turbulent close season where the whole future of the team was in doubt Mapplewell Mavericks U12 Girls played their first game of the new season away at Hemsworth. From the beginning Mapplewell dominated the game and the first goal from Lydia Wilson came about 2 minutes in followed by another shortly after. Darcie Tarrf and Alex Mason were awesome setting up further goals for Shandelle Firth and 4 more for Wilson. The whole team were fantastic and with a performance like that the future for theteam looks very good indeed.
