21/03/2010 4 - 5 Loss To Ward Green
The Mavericks went down 6-4 against Ward Green but launched a tremendous fight back in the second half to come close to levelling the match.

It all started so well when Ryan Heathcote, assisted by Matthew Davies, stunned the home side with a 20 0 second opener. However, by half time Ward Green had turned it around and went in at half time 4-1 up.

In the second half Ward Green increased their lead, scoring two more in rapid succession but after that the Mavericks suddenly switched on and dominated the rest of the match. Matthew Davies came close with a header before Lee Hinchcliffe made it 6-2 rifling a cross from Harry Andrews straight through the keeper`s legs. Soon after Conor Remington made it 6-3, pouncing on a loose ball after Ward Green had failed to clear. Harry Andrews then made it 6-4 latching on to a goal kick from keeper Matthew Cox. The Mavericks continued to battle on with Matthew Ullyott and Joe Donald always in the thick of it up front, whilst at the back Matthew Barraclough and Sam Rolph were always in control. Finally though time ran out and the game ended, but once again the Mavericks showed their true fighting spirit and can be heartened by their great second half performance.

14/03/2010 3 - 2 Win Against Thornes Juniors
The Mavericks notched up their second win of the season in convincing style beating Thornes Juniors 3-2.

Playing against the wind in the first half, the Mavericks eventually took control of the game when Ryan Heathcote crossed with pin point accuracy to Joe Braithwaite, who fired in an unstoppable drive into the top right to make it 1-0. However, despite some desperate defending from the Mavericks, Thornes grabbed an equaliser from a corner kick, which found the net assisted by the wind. The Mavericks then dug in and managed to keep the score level at 1-1 at half time.

The second half was played at a lightning fast pace and the Mavericks dominated most of it with some fine attacking football. Ben Briggs restored the lead with an exquisite left footer that sailed under the keeper having being sent through by the inspired Joe Braithwaite. The match was then put beyond doubt when Matthew Davies put Captain Harry Andrews in the clear to hammer the ball past a stranded keeper to make it 3-1.Although Thornes scored their second late on to make it 3-2, the Mavericks ended up worthy winners and the whole team can be congratulated for an excellent performance.

07/02/2010 0 - 2 Loss To Stanley
The Mavericks were up against Stanley United at home in the cup and despite dominating for long periods went down 2-0.

Both sides had their moments, but it was the Mavericks who had by far the most chances. Unfortunately it was one of those dayswhen the ball just wouldn`t find the net. Chances fell to Ben Briggs, Ryan Heathcote and Matthew Davies in the first half, although it was Stanley who managed to get their noses in front following a goal-mouth scramble.

In the second half the Mavericks tried their best to grab the equaliser with Joe Braithwaite and James Priestly going close. Harry Andrews was then pushed up into an attacking mid-field role and was unlucky not to score following nice break down the middle, his shot being saved bythe keepers legs. The Mavericks continue to pile the pressure on with Conor Remington bursting down the left flank and crossing some great balls into the box. All this pressure meant that the lads at the back had to work overtime, fortunately Lee Hinchcliffe and Co were in inspired form yet again, on hand to repel the inevitable Stanley counter attacks. Despite their efforts the Mavericks conceded a second goal later on in the half but continued to look for goals right to the very end, Kieran Barraclough having his shot cleared off the line.

The Mavericks can now concentrate their efforts on the league with a view to building on their recent improving form. Man of the Match was awarded to Lee Hinchcliffe for an impressive performance at the back

31/01/2010 0 - 2 Loss To Durkar Juniors
It was a case of top versus bottom as the Mavericks played away against league leaders Durkar Devils. After soaking up some early pressure, the Mavericks began knock the ball around nicely and it looked like a fairly even contest. The best chance of the half came when a Harry Andrews free kick was met by the head of Joe Donald, which the keeper just managed to keep out.

In the second half the Mavericks largely became pinned down in their own half and defended with great skill and purpose. Keeper Matthew Cox was again in inspired form, thwarting a number of `one on one` attempts on goal by the Durkar strikers. Notable performances also came from James Priestly, Conor Remington and Kieran Barraclough who worked their socks off in an attempt to put strikers Ben Briggs and Matthew Ullyott through. It wasn`t until late in the day that the defence was finally breached and Durkar grabbed a couple of goals. However, the Mavericks battled on until the final whistle and continued to impress against a very good side. Final score: 2-0 to Durkar Devils. .

24/01/2010 3 - 2 Win Against Wakefield Jets Vulcans
The Mavericks started the New Year in fine style, beating the highflying Wakefield Jets Vulcans 3-2 at Royston.

Following a fairly even start to the game, the Mavericks took the lead when Matthew Davies picked up the ball in midfield, shrugged offa couple of challenges and rifled the ball into the bottom left from long range. Shortly after the Mavericks made it 2-0, Joe Braithwaite feeding the ball through from the right flank for Matthew Davies to grab his second with another unstoppable shot. Some inspired defending from the likes of Sam Rolph and Matthew Barraclough, backed up by the ever dependable Matthew Cox made sure that the lads went in at half time with a clean sheet and a real chance of getting a result.

Predictably the Jets hit back in the second half throwing anything they had against the home side and despite a valiant effort from the back four the Mavericks found themselves all square at 2-2, the Jets scoring twice from set pieces. But whereas the old Mavericks had a tendency to unravel, the new improved Mavericks simply dusted themselves down, regrouped and set about the opposition with even more determination. First up Conor Remington with a superb left foot volley tipped just over the bar, following a nice through ballfrom Ben Briggs. Then it was the turn of Ryan Heathcote who's low drive swept just the wrong side of the right post, having been sent on his way by the inspired Matthew Davies. Finally, with time running out, Matthew Davies was brought down 20 yards out from the Jets' goal and up stepped captain Harry Andrews to drill in a fine shot into the top left hand corner and secure a magnificent first win of the season for the Mavericks.

13/12/2009 0 - 1 Loss To Wrenthorpe Rangers
The Mavericks were looking to improve on their 3-3 draw last time out against Wrenthorpe in what was expected to be another close game.In the first half both teams had an equal number of chances, however as the half went on the Mavericks began to grow inconfidence and started to play it about. Harry Lockwood was unlucky not to score when he latched onto a through ball from Joe Braithwaite to fire the ball straight at the keeper. Chances also fell to Kieran Barraclough & Joe Donald but the opposition keeper managed somehow to keep the ball out.

The Mavericks' defence was also tested on a number of occasions but managed to hold firm with Harry Andrews commanding proceedings in the centre closely supported by the likes of Lee Hincliffe & Sam Rolph.

With the scores still 0-0 at half time the lads came out for the second half more determined than ever and looking for a winner. With Matthew Ullyott holding up the ball well in the centre forward position the Mavericks began to dominate for longg periods. The super-fast Ryan Heathcote began to receive the ball on the right more often and came close late on when his shot was tipped just wide of the post.

Wrenthorpe then grabbed a goal with a minute to go against the run of play to win thegame, but despite this the lads did themselves pound with a great all round performance. Surely a win is not far away.

29/11/2009 1 - 9 Loss To Wombwell Warriors
Mapplewell Mavericks 1 Wombwell Warriors 9 Looking for their first win of the season, the Mavericks entertained Wombwell Warriors who were hotly tipped for this years league title. Conditions weren`t ideal due to torrential rain, but both teams didn`tlet it affect their game and the match lived up to everyones expectations.

The Mavericks found themselves defending for long periods and some crisp tacking from the likes of Sam Rolph and Matthew Davies prevented the opposition from making it a Turkey Shoot. Keeper Matthew Cox was also in scintillating form, pulling off a string of miraculous saves. However, despite a dogged display in defence and mid-field the lads went in at half time 4-0 down.

With the rain easing a little after the break, the Mavericks started to knock it about a bit more and their confidence began to grow with every pass. They began to make Wombwell look human as they pressed forward and were rewarded with a great goal when Harry Andrews`s pass was converted by hot shotRyan Heathcote, drilling the ball beautifully past the keeper for his first of the season. Conor Remington was unlucky not to make it two when his left foot strike sailed just past the left upright having been sent through by Ben Briggs.

Always looking for more goals, the home side got caught out on the break a few times late on, however the whole team battled on to the finish and can all be proud of themselves for their efforts. Final score was 9-1 in favour of Wombwell Warriors.

The home side got off to a dream start when Joe Braithwaite pounced onto a goal kick and returned a long range bullet into the top right to take the lead. Unfortunately their lead was short lived as Ward Green equalised straight from the kick off and then increased their advantage to take a 5-1 lead at half time.

In the second half the Mavericks pushed on and tried to get something out of the game, with defenders Matthew Davies and Lee Hinchcliffe always in the thick of it. The team's efforts were rewarded late on when a long goal kick form Matthew Cox ran nicely into the path of Harry Andrews who thumped the ball low into the bottom right to make the final score 9-2 to Ward Green.

08/11/2009 0 - 5 Loss To Ossett Albion
Back on their travels, the Mavericks were up against Ossett and with both teams looking for their first win of the season a close contest was expected. In the first half both teams created clear cut chances but just couldnt find the net. For the Mavericks, Harry Andrews and Joe Braithwaite came closest; Harrys shot was saved by the keeper and Joes long range effort sailed just over the bar. Ossett too had their moments, twice their strikers were clean through only to blast over the bar from close range. Joe Donnell and James Priestly were impressive in defence, cutting out frequent attacks from the opposition and keeper Matthew Cox as usual chipped in with a couple of top saves. The lads went in 0-0 at half time with the Mavericks overall looking the better side. The second half started brightly for the Mavericks, Thomas Hobson making an immediate impact in the attack with some dazzling artistry and skill as he carved through the opposition defence - in fact he was unlucky not to score his first of the season when his shot fizzed just past the left post. The away side tried their best to break Ossett down but fell victim to their counter attacks and began to concede goals. Try as they might, the lads couldnt stem the flow and the game ended 5-0 to Ossett Man of the Match went to James Priestly for an exceptional performance.

Just as it looked like the tide was turning towards the home side, Durkar netted anotherand the teams went in at half time with the Mavericks 3-0 down.

The second half largely belonged to the Mavericks and despite conceding another goal early on the lads showed what they were made of with a gutsy performance in all areas of the pitch. Battling Ben Briggs instigate the home side's first when he won the ball in mid-field, slipped the ball Harry Andrews who's flick on found Connor Remington on the left flank to ram the ball across the keeper and into the bottom corner. Matthew Davies was also in top form at the back with some impressive interceptions, he also showed off his shooting skills when he latched onto a loose ball following a corner kick to fire majestically into the back of the net.

The Mavericks pushed on, Matthew Ullyott in particular holding up the ball well for the other forwards to launch their attacks. However, fortunately for Durkar time ran out and the game end without further score, but the lads can take heart with their impressive fight back.
