19/04/2009 1 - 2 Loss To Wigton Moor Juniors
With winter behind us and the spring weather improving, the mavericks travelled to Wigton Moor at Leeds determined to end their losing ways. 8 players made the journey and were rewarded with a surprise well taken early goal driven into the corner from newsigning Megan Gosling. Mapplewell then had endure a persistant Wigton who went close on numerous occassions but for the efforts of Sophie Palmer who played brilliantly as the Maverick's stand in goal keeper. Defence led by Rebecca Lawton and Milly Wilcock were as formidable as usual but could do nothing to prevent Wigton equalising 5 mins before half time. The midfield began to lose control during the second half despite spirited efforts from Ella Cheetham who hit the post and Abbie Turner. Lucy Standeven and Lauryn Wilcock were unlucky not to break the deadlock but Wigton managed to squeeze a shot past the defence and score the winner. Minutes left and in a desperate attempt to find the equaliser, the mavericks goal keeper took the free kick from the half way line with all the rest of the team in the box. The ball deflected to a Wigton player and they broke almost scoring another. Well done to the Mavericks, our form is improving all the time.

The Mavericks continue to be undeafeated in 2009 with a goalless draw against Crossley Juniors. New player Abbie Turner showed great promise in just her second game for the Mapplewell Club making lots of good runs down the wing. Once again Rebecca Lawton as central defender proved that she is dependable and reliable player reading the flow of the game and frustrating the Crossley attack. Charlotte Evans as goalkeeper bravely threw herself at the feet of the away attack a number of time, eventually saving the match 5 minutes from the end in a 1 on 1 situation. The Mavericks defended well right through until the end of the game, recapturing some of the form that they showed before the Christmas break.

01/02/2009 1 - 0 Win Against Tingley Athletic
Although it is the start of February this was the first fixture of the New Year for the Mavericks against a team that had narrowly beaten them in the first half of the season. Tingley were up against it from the start, playing away and with a girl shortthey were always going to struggle to win this game, Mapplewell fired up and eager to start their 09 campaign. Tingley had a good opportunity to score in the first half, their main attacker breaking free only for the ball to be parried away by keeper Charlotte Evans. This game looked like it was going to be a goalless draw until 3 minutes before the end Lauryn Wilcock managed to find the net for the Mavericks. This was the Mavericks first game in 6 weeks - they got the right result but must sharpen their thinking and hone their skills for the rest of the season which will definitley be tougher games than the one this week.

22/11/2008 1 - 0 Win Against Rothwell Juniors
Despite being the underdogs against a team that had thrashed the Mavericks 5-0 earlier in the season the Under 10 girls team snatched victory against Rothwell in a last minute thriller.
Ella Cheetham scored in the 49th minute, securing a 1-0 victory in the first round of the cup.

Though most of the play in the second half went with the Rothwell side the defence led by Rebecca Lawton and the goals of Charlotte Evans proved to be inpenetrable to the Rothwell attack.

With the luxury of reserve players missing the Mavericks were unceasing in their determination to see this game to the end with a disillusioned Rothwell team relegated to the lesser cup competition.

Final score, Mavericks 1 Rothwell 0.

12/10/2008 2 - 3 Loss To Tingley Athletic
In their 3rd game of the season the novice team of Mapplewell Mavericks U10 girls team suffered a hard-fought 3-2 defeat to a physical Tingley Athletic team.

This is a game that could have been won by either team with the Mavericks taking the lead with a well struck goal by team captain Ella Cheatham. Tingley responded with a cracking strike to draw level, Charlotte Evans as goalkeeper being unlucky not to save the shot. A stoic performance by Rebecca Lawton in defence meant that Tingley had to fight for every ball in the oppositions half.At half time it was 1-1, Sophie Palmer hitting the post just before the interval.

In the second half, good performances by Nicola Mitchell and Lucy Standeven could not stop Tingley going 3-1 up. Charlotte Evans switched to play as an outfield player, swapping places with Natasha Wilson. Sophie Palmer gained a second goal for the Mavericks and the Mapplewell team were unlucky not to draw level, Tingley just managing to hang on to their lead.

05/10/2008 0 - 5 Loss To Rothwell Juniors
Despite losing 5-0, Mapplewell Mavericks under 10 girls team made another spirited attempt in their campaign in this league. After regrouping from the summer departure of 4 of their key players. This fledgling team have worked hard to become a promising force in the girls league. The first goal for Rothwell came after 16 minutes and was quickly followed by another 3 before half time. The goal keeper Lucy Standeven on a steep learning curve to play to this standard. Defenders Natasha Wilson and Rebecca Lawton fought valiantly from the whistle, the latter making many crucial challenges against the swift moving attack of Rothwell. Midfielders Nicola Mitchell and Charlotte Evans acquitted themselves extremely well with Ella Cheatham doing an unbelievable amount of running to get the ball to striker Sophie Palmer who was unlucky not to get the ball in the back of the net.

A rearrangement at half-time saw Charlotte Evans take the place of the goalkeeper with Rothwell managing to score just once in the second half. The exchange of Lucy Standeven and Charlotte Evans seeming to work, with Standeven playing a pivotal role in the second half as an outfield player. Girl of the match was Ella Cheatham due to her gutsy performance and unwillingness to give in against a more experienced team. Though they were the losing side the Mavericks showed once again that they have the talent and team spirit that will pay dividends as the season unfolds.
