19/04/2009 4 - 0 Win Against Kippax Welfare
With defensive stalwart Lee Hinchcliffe out for the remainder of the season with a fractured ankle due to a skipping accident, the management team had to make some last minute alterations to the line-up. In came Joe Donald from the Yellow team to bolsterthe defence with the ever reliable Sam Rolph and keeper Matthew Davies. Straight away the Green team set off in the hunt for goals and within the first 5 minutes Mapplewell had taken the lead with a very well taken Ben Briggs goal. Briggs brought the balldown after a clearance by the Kippax keeper and thumped in his 6th goal of the season. The remainder of the first half was much like a turkey shoot with Ryan Heathcote hitting the post and Thomas Hobson seeing a great shot headed clear off the line. Nerves were calmed somewhat when Ryan Heathcote made the score 2-0. Mavericks keeper Matthew Davies did one of his trademark long clearances with Ryan Heathcote waiting patiently for the ball to come down. His anticipation of the bounce put him one step aheadof the defender which was enough for this goal machine to strike his 18th of the season.

The second half saw a slight change of line-up with Heathcote going in goal and for keeper Davies to go into the forward position. This change didn«t faze the Mavericks as Connor Remington«s ball to Thomas Hobson saw him run into the box and find the back of the onion bag with a splendidly taken goal to make it 3-0. All the points were sown up midway through the second half again with Thomas Hobson finishingwell after a good through ball by Matthew Davies.

05/04/2009 0 - 1 Loss To Ossett Albion
The green team were looking to build on their recent fine run of form away to Ossett Albion. Kicking up hill and on a boggy pitch the Mavericks looked more like the home side as they controlled the majority of the first half with some excellent passing inall ares of the field. James Priestly came closest to scoring after latching on to a number of probing passes from Conor Remington only to be thwarted by a compact opposition defence. Ossett showed why they are one of the top teams in the division andfrequently looked dangerous on the counter, however Ben Briggs came to the rescue on a number of occasions with some well timed sliding tackles.

The lads went in at half time with the score at 0-0 looking to capitalise on their down hill advantage in the second half. With Matthew Davies switched to a centre forward position and Ryan Heathcote in the nets the Mavericks went in search of a winner. Mid field dynamos Mason Booth and Joe Braithwate tried hard to set up an opening for the strikers andpushed forward. Against the run of play however, Ossett broke free and went 1-0 up. The Mavericks pressed on and Matthew Ullyott got into some great positions and only just failed to grab the equaliser. But in the end it wasn`t to be and the score remained at 1-0 to Ossett Albion.

29/03/2009 5 - 0 Win Against Nostell Miners
All three points were sown up by the Green team in the first half, playing some of their best football of the season..

The Mavericks went ahead after just three minutes when a well placed cross from Ryan Heathcote found the head of Ben Briggs to put the visitors 1-0 up.What followed was a display of fluid passing football by The Mavericks with every team member showing confidence and ability on the ball. Waves of pressure were applied on the home team and it was no surprise when The Mavericks increased their lead after just 8 minutes. A powerful Ben Briggs shot could only be parried by the Nostell keeper and the resultant ball fell nicely for Ryan 'The Hit-Man' Heathcote to slot the ball home. Solid defensive displays by the dynamic duo of Sam Rolph and Lee Hinchcliffe kept any attacks down to a minimum with keeper Matthew Davies enjoying a quiet game in goal. The Mavericks third goal was a one-man show with Connor Remington making a powerful run into the box to unleash a thunderbolt into the bottom corner leaving the keeper with no chance. The final goal of the first half was a set-piece special when The Mavericks were awarded a free kick just outside of the penalty area. With a well organised routine obviously honed with hours of practice on thetraining ground, Joe Braithwaite stepped up and shot for goal with Connor Remington nudging the ball past the helpless keeper to put the Greens 4-0 up by the end of the first half.

Second half changes saw Mason Booth and Matthew Ullyott both getting a good run out, keeper Matthew Davies coming out into midfield with Ryan Heathcote showing his versatility by keeping goal. The closest the home team came to scoring was when a well goal-bound shot was diverted onto the post by the head of Sam Rolph. The rout was completed midway through the second half when man of the match Ben Briggs played a through ball for Joe Braithwaite to chase. With the keeper coming out Joe Braithwaite patiently waited for the ball to come down before superbly lobbing the onc

15/03/2009 0 - 3 Loss To Glasshoughton Wel
Mapplewell Mavericks (Greens) 0 Glasshoughton Welfare 3

The green team were up against one of the top teams in the division in their leg of the cup tie and, despite a valiant effort by all, couldn`t quite match up to a well organised Glasshoughtonside.

The home team were soon up against it when the opposition struck twice in rapid succession to make it 2-0 in the first 10 minutes. However, the Greens weren`t going down without a fight and a Joe Braithwaite free kick was deflected just wideby top scorer Ryan Heathcote. This was shortly followed by a trade mark left footer from Ben Briggs, forcing the keeper to make a fine save. Just as it looked like the tide was turning in favour of the Greens Glasshoughton grabbed a third and the lads went in at half time 3-0 down with it all to do in the second period.

The Greens threw caution to the wind in the second half and put Matthew Davies in a centre forward position with Thomas Hobson deputising in the nets. The tactics looked like another master stroke was unfolding as the opposition were bombarded by a barrage of attempts on goal from the likes of Ben Briggs, Ryan Heathcote, Mason Booth, and Matthew Davies. However no matter how hard they tried the greens couldn`t breech a stubbornopposition defence.

Final score 3-0 to Glasshoughton.

01/03/2009 3 - 3 Draw With Wrenthorpe Rangers
The Mavericks Green team turned in a tremendous effort to come back from being 3-1 behind to share the spoils in this well battled and evenly fought game.

Kicking off, the Greens were soon putting the home team on the back foot with some impressive work in midfield by Joe Braithwaite which resulted in a quick turn and snap shot by Ryan Heathcote which just went over the bar. However it was the home side which broke the deadlock when a speculative cross found the foot of the Wrenthorpe forward to toe-poke the ball past the diving Matthew Davies. Soon afterwards the Mavericks were level though when an accurate through ball off Lee Hinchcliffe found the ever dangerous Ryan Heathcote who smashed the ball past the helpless keeper to level the scores. Five minutes later though the home side were once again in front when a corner, punched away by keeper Matthew Davies, fell kindly to a Wrenthorpe player to make it 2-1. The Mavericks were unlucky not to level the score when Ryan Heathcote nut-megged the defender and was bearing down on goal only for a last gasp tackle managed to clear the ball. The first half ended 3-1 as in the dying seconds the home side extended their advantage with a well taken goal against the run of play.

The Mavericks supporters must have thought it was going to be one of those days when early on in the second half the Wrenthorpe keeper pulled off a great save off a Ryan Heathcote shot. Wrenthorpe responded with some good work of their own and only great defending by Sam Rolph stopped the home side extending their lead further.

Both sides were playing good open football and had chances to score but it was Joe Donald that provided a glimmer of hope for the travelling Mavericks supporters when his telling pass found hit-man Heathcote who placed his left foot shot into the corner of the goal. With confidence increasing every minute the Mavericks went hunting for the equaliser and their hard work was rewarded when a corner which was kicked away by the Wrenthorpe defence

01/02/2009 1 - 0 Win Against Wrenthorpe Rangers
The green team were certainly in the pink as they made the most of home advantage to win their leg against Wrenthorpe Rangers under the grey skies of Royston.

The home side made a promising start with early shots from Thomas Hobson and Conor Remington. However, the away side soon found their purple patch and it was left for super keeper Matthew Davies to stop a long shot from the opposition`s No 9, which could have landed the Mavericks in the brown stuff with only minutes on the clock. The bestchance of the half though went to Joe Braithwaite who`s long range free kick rattled the post with the keeper looking on like a lemon. The lads went in for their orange at half time with the score locked at 0-0.

The prospect of a golden prize tothe winners of the competition obviously inspired the home side as they came out for the second half on a mission with Thomas Hobson in particular searching for a winner. Shortly after, a long kick from keeper Matthew Davies penetrated deep into the away half and with the opposition defence displaying all the observation skills of a titanic iceberg spotter, striker Ryan Heathcote sneaked in like a navy seal to shoot just wide. But every cloud has a silver lining and following good work from Conor Remington and Joe Braithwaite, Ryan was sent clean through to drill the ball firmly passed the keeper to put the home side into the black at 1-0. As the weather turned into a white out, Mason Booth and Matthew Ullyott were brought on to steady the ship. Wrenthorpe had nothing to loose and pushed for the equaliser. However, super reliable Lee Hinchcliffe and Sam Rolph held up in defence and the Green`s reached the chequered flag in front, leaving the opposition with nothing but red faces and blue fingers.

25/01/2009 3 - 2 Win Against South Kirkby Knights
The Green team got back to winning ways with a marathon of a match against South Kirkby Knights on a pitch that was more suited to mud wrestling than football.

Early pressure from the greens was met with counter attack from the opposition and it was soon clear this match was going to be a game of ping pong and not just plain sailing.˜ It was the greens who looked the more likely to score when a huge rugby style drop kick by˜ keeper Matthew Davies bounced up nicely for Ryan Heathcote who`s shot brushed the post with the opposition keeper stranded.˜ Both teams were hunting for the opener but it remained goalless at half time.

On came Mason Booth at the start of the second half to add a bit of pace into the mid field and soon the greens were finding their feet and putting the pressure on.˜ The opener came when Conor Remington`s shot was saved by the keeper only for Joe Braithwaite to slam the ball like a javelin into the top right hand corner.˜ Then Joe made it 2 nil with a sublime individualeffort as he took˜ the ball from defence, beat a number of players, and unleashed a bullet of a shot which was deflected into the bottom corner.˜ It seemed that the game was turning into a turkey shoot when only a minute later Conor Remington volleyed ina Joe Braithwaite corner to put the greens 3 nil˜ up. However, the opposition rallied and clawed one back straight from kick-off.˜ Another one soon followed as the momentum started to shift toward an evermore confident home side.˜ The atmosphere became ever more tense as the management-coach duo began to sweat like two˜pie eaters wrestling in a sauna.˜ But they needn`t have worried as Lee Hinchcliffe and Sam Rolph soaked up the pressure with some delightful defending, assisted by Mason Booth and Ben Briggs and the ever dependable Matthew Davies who leaped like an Olympic high jumper to deny South Kirkby the equaliser with a trade mark one handed save.

The greens almost put the game beyond doubt when Ben Briggs unleashed a left foot bullet which we

18/01/2009 1 - 1 Draw With Ossett Albion
Ossett Albion arrived at Oakwood on a sunny but blustery Sunday morning. The game kicked off and neither team could gain the upper hand. Ossett grabbed the opener. A defensive mix up let in the Ossett forward, who slide the ball in at the far post. Mapplewell tried to to level the score up. Good keeping and wayward shooting meant this wasn't going to happen. The Mapplewell management talked to the team at half-time and get them going a bit more. This seemed to work as Conor Remington got the deserved leveller. He got the ball on right wing and sent a shot across the keeper and into the goal at the far post. The goal keepers from both sides made some important saves and the game fininshed level at 1-1.

The match was Sam Rolph. He made some very important tackles and set up the midfielders with some neat passing.

11/01/2009 2 - 5 Loss To Glasshoughton Wel
The green team couldn't quite match the fortunes of the yellows and despite spirited effort from the whole team, lost their match to a well organised home side.

Glass Houghton struck the first blow when they found space on the right and with thedefence out numbered, bingo it was 1-0. The greens were determined to hit back and hot rod sticker Ryan Heathcote went close to scoring with great passing firstly from Conor Remington and then Joe Braithwaite. The equaliser came soon after when Conor laid the ball perfectly to super striker Ben Briggs, fresh from intensive fitness training in Florida, to bopit in from ten yards. The usual Briggs celebration ensued with a nice knee slider; ooh how wii loved that one. The home team not to be out done increased the pressure and defenders Lee Hinchliffe and Sam Rolph worked tirelessly in an attempt to keep a physical opposition team at bay. However, they couldn't prevent a cruel defection foiling the keeper to put the home side 2-1 up at half time.

The second half started at a pace and a superb one handed save from star keeper Matthew Davies prevented the home side going further ahead. The greens then evened things up when a pin point corner from Joe Braithwaite was headed in by Ben Briggs - theresulting trade mark celebration making sure his mum had plenty of washing to do. The home side again took the lead and the manager had no option but to run the risk and push for the equaliser. On came some fresh legs in the form of action man Mason Booth to break the home side`s increasing monopoly in mid field. Keiron Begg and Matthew Ullyott were also introduced to complete the jigsaw and all three players made a tremendous effort to get the team back on level terms.

But in the end it wasn`t to be, as the home side increased their advantage with another two goals. Final score 5-2 to Glass Houghton.

04/01/2009 6 - 0 Win Against Nostell Miners
The Green team brought in the New Year with a convincing 6-0 win.

Mavericks` pocket dynamo Lee Hinchcliffe, opened the scoring with a fine shot from the edge of the area following a neat through ball from Joe Braithwaite. The opposition howeverlooked dangerous on the counter offensive and an alert Matthew Davies was forced to clear the ball to safety from well outside his area. Sam Rolph and Lee Hinchcliffe constantly pushed the play into the opposition`s half and despite constant pressure from the home side the teams went in at half time with the score at 1-0.

The second period saw the Greens up the tempo and in a move which involved some great inter-play between Thomas Hobson and Mason Booth, the ball found Joe Braithwaite who made nomistake to make it 2-0. Goal scorer then became goal provider when Joe Braithwaite collected the ball from Conor Remington and sent rocket man Ryan Heathcote on his way to turn his marker and slot the ball neatly past a stranded keeper. Not content withone, Ryan Heathcote then scored his second and the Mavericks fourth after he latched on to a loose ball from the keeper and steered the ball over the line. The Greens were now in top gear as front man Matthew Ullyott scored his first goal for the club with a well taken effort following a through ball from Thomas Hobson. Matthew then rounded off a fine display, with a wonderful second, striking the ball as sweet as a nut past the keeper after being sent through by Ryan Heathcote, making the final result 6-0.

The second match had a lot to live up to after such a thrilling opener. Luckily this match turned out to be just as exciting as the first, with some glorious football from both sides. The Greens got going right from the start when a gliding pass from Ben Brigss found Ryan Heathcoate in acres of space who`s shot was blocked by the keeper. The first half was largely dominated by the Mavericks, with numerous shots on goal flying in from the attack force of Ben Briggs, Conor Remington, Ryan Heathcote and Joe Braithwaite. The second half started at a lively pace with both sides hunting for a winner. The defensive partnership of Lee Hinchliffe and Sam Rolph were kept busy wrestling with the opposition`s front men, whilst keeper Matthew Davies was always on hand with the occasional flying save. Despite early pressure from the opposition, the Green`s started to get into their stride and were unlucky not to break the deadlock when an attacking move initiated by Joe Braithwaite saw the ball ballooning tantalisingly over the keeper only to hit the cross bar. Kieran Begg then got his chance to show his Manager what he could do, coming on as substitute, and immediately made an impact with some great running play up front. But the opposition held out and the game ended all square 0-0. Man of the match was awarded to Joe Braithwaite for his determined display in all areas of the park.

23/11/2008 3 - 0 Win Against Stanley United
The green team made light work of Stanley United in the second match as top scorer, Ryan Heathcote, brought home the bacon with a stunning first half hat trick.

The fist goal came by the way of a long delivery from keeper Matthew Davies which caught the away side on the hop as it fell to Ryan to score inside two minutes.

Before Stanley had time to recover, Conor Remington claimed the ball in midfield, beat one player and sent a lovely floating ball to Ryan Heathcote who easily side stepped his marker to shoot low and hard past the keeper to make it 2-0.

Ryan then competed his hat trick when Ben Briggs` blistering left foot drive was parried by the keeper for Ryan to score easily from two yards.

Substitute, Mason Booth then came on and was soon in on the action with a number of attempts on goal including a header from a Joe Braithwaite corner which went just wide.

In the second half, the greens closed out the opposition with Lee Hinchliffe winning absolutely everything in an increasingly boggy mid-field and Sam Rolph controlling the defence.

Mason Booth and Kieran Begg regularly created chances in their partnership up front and both were unlucky not to score. Mason had a shot cleared off the line and Kieran saw his shot strike the post.

The `Man of the Match` award went to Ryan Heathcote for a dazzling first half performance. Final score 3-0.

16/11/2008 1 - 2 Loss To Alverthorpe Jnrs
The Green team were involved in a thrilling game, reminiscent of a classic cup tie; and were unlucky to lose after a late winner from what appeared to be Alverthorpe`s first choice team.

The game was played at a fast tempo with some firm but fairchallenges going in from both teams.î It was the Mavericks whoîtook the game to the home side with Captain Ben Briggs only just failing to connect with a speculative overheadî kick and Joe Braithwaite shooting low to force the keeper to make a good save. The deadlock was broken however, when Joe delivered the perfect pass to Ryan Heathcote who calmly stroked the ball passed the keeper to put the Mavericks into a well deserved lead. The Greens were then subjected to a Alverthorpe fightback and despite some do or die defending from Lee Hinchcliffe they somehow managed to scoop the ball over the keeper to make it 1-1.î Substitute Mason Booth then had a chance to restore the lead but his shot wentîjust wide and both teamsîwent îin level at half time.

The second half proved to be just as exciting as the first; Ryan Heathcote was again in the thick of it when he was sent clean through the keeper, but just like his contemporary Kayode Odejay the day before, was thwarted by a great save by the keeper. The opposition weren`t giving anything away and almost took the lead when a shot from the right when flying just over the bar.î This was followed by another shot which was expertly headed away from danger by Sam Rolph.î Keeper Matthew Davies was also keptbusy and was forced to make aî terrific left handed save following a break on the right. As the seconds ticked away and the tension built and Alverthorpe were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area.î The Greens lined up for the impending shot which was bravely blocked by Conor Remington.î Then in a cruel twist of fate Alverthrope were awarded yet another free kick, this time further out, which looped over the keeper and into the top corner.î The Greens pushed for the equaliser, but it wasn`t to be, a

02/11/2008 2 - 1 Win Against Thornes Juniors
The Green team earned all three points with a hard fought win. From the off they adapted better to the tricky muddy conditions with shots raining in from Ben Briggs and Ryan Heathcote. Just as it seemed a goal was never going to come Joe Braithwaite stepped up to fire a long free kick into the area which was helped on past a stranded keeper by a Thornes player to make it 1-0. Further attempts on goal by Conor Remington and Joe Braithwaite were thwarted by the opposition keeper and the Greens were unlucky to be just 1 goal up at half time.

In the second half, Thornes began to hit the Greens on the break and Matthew Davies was tested a number of times, however, the keeper kept the ball out with some fine blocking at close range to deny the opposition an equaliser. The Greens again got back to their stride when a neat build up from Joe Braithwaite and Conor Remington put Ryan Heathcote through to round the keeper only to see his shot cleared off the line. The Mavericks` constant pressure was finally rewarded when Conor Remington sent Ryan Heathcote on his way to strike the ball firmly past the keeper to make it 2-0. Thornes then hit back with a goal following a scramble in the increasingly muddy area. However, good work by Sam Rolph, Lee Hinchcliffe and Mason Booth in defence and midfield kept the Greens in the lead and it was the Greens who finished the stonger with Kieran Begg, Thomas Hobson and Matthew Ullyott all going close..

26/10/2008 0 - 2 Loss To Durkar Devils
Mapplewell Mavericks Under 10`s Green Team entertained 2nd placed Durkar Devils. Durkar made an early breakthrough. This put the home side on the back foot. 19/10/2008 2 - 1 Win Against Glasshoughton Wel
The green team made it a day to remember by grabbing all three points in their game against Glasshoughton..

The Maverick`sĂsoon made in-roads into the opposition`s half and in a well worked move Ryan Heathcote came close when his effort hit thepost.Glasshoughton certainly knew they weren`t going to have it easy and were left reeling when a neat through ball from Conor Remington was put away in fine style by front man Ryan Heathcote. The opposition hit back though just before the break to makeit1-1 and could have gone into the lead if it wasn`t for an inspired one handed reaction save from the in form keeper Matthew Davies. .

After the interval, the Greens went in search of a winner and a determined Joe Braithwaite came close whenhis shot was well saved. Kieran BeggĂ and Mason Booth then came on and were soon linking up nicely in the attack with Mason shooting just wide. But it was Maverick`s danger man Conor Remington who eventually made the break through with a thunderous left footer which knocked keeper and ball into the back of the net. Glasshoughton weren`t going down without a fight though and it took a great block tackle from Sam Rolph to prevent the equaliser. The whole team pulled together the ensure the win with Lee Hinchliffe and Ben Briggs working tirelessly in the background to stifle any opposition attack, but the `Man of the Match` prize went to keeper Matthew Davies who denied the opposition several times in each half with some tremendous saves, including a quite superb effort tipping the ball over the bar just before the final whistle.

12/10/2008 0 - 6 Loss To Thornes Juniors
The Green team`s recent winning streak came to an abrupt end against a pacey Thornes Juniors side.

The Mavericks managed to absorb some early pressure with some last gasp defending and a string of quite brilliant saves from keeper Matthew Davies, but inevitably the home side began to find the back of the net and the Mavericks were soon 2 goals down.˜ The greens then started to fight back and a long dribbling run from the super fast Ryan Heathcote forced the opposition`s keeper into making a divingsave. However, Thornes added another just before the break to make it 3-0 at half time..

In the second half the greens came out all guns blazing with James Priestley going close followed by Joe Braithwaite who was clean through on goal only to be bundled off the ball inside the area. The home side then began to hit the Mavericks on the break and again some uncompromising tackling from Sam Rolph, Lee Hinchcliffe and Ben Briggs and some brave saves from the keeper denied the home side countless times..

28/09/2008 4 - 0 Win Against Kippax Welfare
The green team ensured progress into the next round with a comfortable win.

The Mavericks put the opposition under early pressure with Joe Braithwaite forcing the keeper to push the ball over the bar. But it wasn`t long before Ryan Heathcote carved through the defence to let Joe tap in from close range to make it 1-0.

Ryan then made it 2-0 at half time with a well timed shot after some good work in the area from Ben Briggs and Conor Remington.

In the second half Kippax began to find their feet and it took some strong defending from Lee Hinchcliffe and Sam Rolph to make sure the greens` keeper had little to do.

The Mavericks were soon back in amongst the goals though when a nice through ball from Ben Briggs saw Thomas Hobson clean through to slot the ball neatly past the keeper to make it 3-0.

The greens topped off a great performance with a another goal from Thomas Hobson after the keeper mis-timed a clearance. Thomas was denied a hat trick near the end when the keeper saved well, but his strong performance earned him `Man of the Match`

14/09/2008 1 - 3 Loss To South Kirkby Knights
The Under 10`s green team kicked off the new season with 2 new signing Joe Donald and Ryan Heathcote with the team hoping to continue their good run of form from the end of last year.

Both teams settled down early on and produced some good football with the Mapplewell Mavericks having the majority of early possession. Unfortunately possession doesn`t equate to goals and it was a rare attack by the South Kirby Knights that lead to their first goal after a good run down the left. The Mapplewell side pressed and they were rewarded with a goal by Joe Braithwaite after some good work by debutant Ryan Heathcote.

The second half started much the same as the first half finished with Mapplewell having the bulk of the ball, however it seemed to be one of those days with shot after shot either being saved or just off target. Pressing forward for the winner the Green side were sucker-punched by two late goals to go down 3-1.

Man of the Match was Joe Braithwaite.
