The second game of the week saw Mapplewell Mavericks travel to Stanley. Again they came away with two more victories. The Yellow Team won with ten goals scored to none in reply. Thomas Clare bagged four and Lee Jordan got two of first six goals. After the break Owen Wildblood, Harry Lockwood with two and again Thomas Clare finished off the scoring. Thomas Hobson walked off with the Man of the Match award. |

The Green Team found the going it little bit tougher. They only managed three goals without a reply from the home side. Zach Dawson grabbed the first . He then turned provider by crossing for Joe Braithwaite to head home. The last goal came from first half goalkeeper Matthew Davies. He came out for the second half and turned on the style with a fine finish from a mistake by the home keeper. Man of the Match was winger Joe Braithwaite. |

U14's 1 v 1 Normanton Athletic
After securing the division title in mid week Mapplewell entertained Normanton Athletic .The first half saw both teams in great form, Stand in keeper Callum Hewitt made a fine diving save to deny Normanton an early lead. The game flowed from end to end with Thomas Foster, Thomas Jackson , Ashley Barraclough and Sam Castle putting in good performances. In the second period Normanton took the lead with a great dipping volley from the edge of the box .Normanton tried to press home there advantage but the Mavericks defended well with good displays from Ben Powers, Kevin Dryden and Nathan Wright .With time running out the Mavericks again got a well deserved equaliser Callum Hewitt sliding the ball through for Gaz Newitt to claim his 49th goal of the season and for the second time in a week the man of the match went to the whole team for a great performance. |

The U9's entertained second placed Durkar Devils. The Yellow Team won the first game by a single goal. The match was fairly even early on the both sides looking for the breakthrough. Fortunately for the Mavericks it came their way . From a throw in the away goalkeeper palmed the ball out . It fell invitingly for Thomas Clare to rifle the ball home. In the second half both sides again were creating chances. Jordan Bond rightly deserved the Man of the Match award with some quite outstanding saves. These saves were important as it gave the home side the points. |

U9s Green 4 v 2 Durkar Devils
The Green Team found goalscoring a little easier by netting four against two for the Devils. Durkar took an early lead then Mapplewell levelled shortly afterwards. Zach Dawson fired a free kick from near the right corner flag. The keeper couldn't hold onto the ball and palmed it into the goal. Matthew Cox added two further goals in the first half. His first came from a shot that the keeper again fumbled and Cox just got a foot to the ball to turn it home. The second came as Dawson fired a shot in and Coxcouldn't get out of the way and it went into the net off his hip. In the second half and the Mavericks added their fourth. Ben Briggs scoring with great finish from all his own work. Late on The Devils got their second goal. Man of the match was Matthew Cox not only for his two goals but for his defensive qualities, getting in some vital tackles and blocks. |

U14's 2 v 2 Thornes Colts
The Mavericks entered their mid week encounter with Thornes needing 1 point to be crowned champions .Playing their first game for a month the Mavericks made hard work of the first period and their hosts took full advantage taking the lead after 17 minutes with a well taken shot from the edge of the box. The Mavericks strived to get back in the game Matty Elvin hit the bar from a free kick, Gaz Newitt thunderous shot crashed against the bar and Ben Vodden broke into the box but blazed his shot wide of the target. Within minutes of the restart Thornes doubled there lead and it looked as though the champagne would be put on ice. With twelve minutes of the half remaining Gaz Newitt chased a long ball from Nathan Wright and slotted past the advancing keeper.The Mavericks poured forward in search of the equalizer and with 4 minutes of time left. U9's Yellow 2 v 1 Wakefield Jets (CUP FINAL)
The Under 9 Boys did it !!!!!. They beat Wakefield Jets 3-2 to win the League Cup. Two very, very solid performances clinched the cup. The Yellow Team went behind early on as the Jets poured forward with the wind at their backs. But The Mavericks didn't buckle under the pressure. Going behind gave them the kick they needed. Owen Wildblood scored a fantastic free kick from the right hand side. Jordan Bond produced an outstanding display in goal. Half Time 1-1.With the wind now at Mapplewells back, they tried to get the ball down and play. Thomas Clare, Harry Andrews and Lee Jordan all tried to get the second goal. It finally arrived.Owen Wildblood chased down a long ball but the keeper charged out and missed the ball. He flattened Wildblood and the ref rightly awarded the Mavericks a penalty. Thomas Clare stepped up and smashed the kick straight into the net. Wakefield Jets piled on the pressure but couldn't find an equaliser. The Mavericks defence stood strong. The match finished 2-1. |

U9's Green 1 v 1 Wakefield Jets (CUP FINAL)
The Green Team were buoyed by the Yellow teams result. The Green Team were again put under some early pressure. Again the defenders were outstanding. Matthew Davies stood firm as the last line of defence. There were a few heart stopping moments. Joshua Neil eased a bit of that pressure by looping the ball over the keeper and into the net off the underside of the bar. Half Time 1-0. In the second half Wakefield Jets repeatedly tried to break through the Mavericks defence. The Jets gained a very, very, dubious penalty. The ball seemed to be out of play for a goal kick but the referee pointed to the spot. Our keeper was very unlucky not to get a hand to it. After this Ben Briggs was unlucky to see his lob hit the top of the crossbar. Wave after wave of Jetspressure came but to no avail. There was an enormous amount of relief as the referee blew the final whistle. All the Mavericks players were cheering and jumping about celebrating their fantastic hard worked victory. |

The U9's visited bottom of the league Kippax. The Green team lost 2-1. The game started with two evenly matched sides. Both teams were looking to get the opening goal. Both keepers made vital saves to keep it 0-0. Shortly before half time Zach Dawson pounced on a poor clearance from the Kippax defence. He shot from the edge of the area through a crowded box to find the far corner. The goal should have kick started the Mavericks into going further into the lead. After the break it was Kippax turn to score. They equalised after the defence couldn't clear the ball. The Mavericks could not get their passing game going at all. The killer goal came minutes before full time. Kippax had a couple of chances at goal but eventually the ball somehow ended up in thenet. Man of the Match was midfielder Joshua Neil. |

The Yellow team found things a little easier with a 5-0 victory. The first half was again an even affair with both teams riding their look in defence. Thomas Clare struck the post and Harry Andrews shot just past the post. In the second half it was Mapplewell that found the net .Thomas Clare ran at the defence and finished with his usual composure. The Mavericks then relaxed a little to start and pass the ball like they can do. The goals started to flow. Next it was Harry Andrews' turn, he too scored with a fine finish from the edge of the box. The knee of Harry Lockwood was to score the third goal. Thomas Clare and Harry Lockwood grabbed the final two goals to seal a 5-0 win. Man of the Match was Harry Lockwood's knee. His knee scored two goals and helped him give a great performance. |

The Under 9's cannot buy a win in the league at the moment. Two games this weekend away at Ossett Albion ended in two defeats. The Yellow Team lost by 2 goals to 1. Mapplewell scored the opening goal when Thomas Clare scored his first for a while. He latched onto a Conor Remington pass to finish into the bottom corner. In the second half Ossett dominated the play having several good chances. They scored two goals to snatch the points. Man of the Match was Matthew Barraclough. Yet again he gave a solid defensive performance. |

The Green Team needed to win by two clear goals to progress. They did this in style by winning 4-1.The first three goals came from Man of the Match Zach Dawson.His first came from Joe Braithwaites throw. The Durkar defender handled in the area giving Dawson the chance to score his second from the spot.Dawson was brought down on the edge of the area and he got up and fired a shot in at the near post. The Under 9 's went through to the Invitation Cup Final. They beat Durkar Devils 4-2 on aggregate. The Yellow Team lost 1-0. It was a tactical game. Mapplewell defended deep and rarely threatened the Devils goal. The goal came in the first half and for the rest of the game it was constant Durkar pressure. Man of the Match was Owen Wildblood. He was moved back into a sweeper type role instead of his usual midfield position and looked very assured. |

The U14's played out a thrilling draw with Higham Jnrs. The Mavericks took the lead within 5 minutes when Ben Vodden turned in Gaz Newitt's corner but the lead was short lived as Higham equalised from a great free kick. Mid way through the half Mapplewell again took the lead when Callum Hewitt deflected the keepers kick into the net.Again Higham equalised with a great run and shot to leave the game in dead lock at the break.In the second period Higham pushed for all three points but found man of the match Callun Pettinger in great form with two outstanding saves. Mapplewell looked dangerous on the break but spurned several opportunities to win the game. The draw leaves the Mavericks requiring 1 point from three matches to be crowned champions. |

The U14's took maximum points from a seven goal thriller against Airedale Utd. Playing against a strong wind Airedale opened the scoring in the 5th minute before Gaz Newitt equalised from a Jack Hattersley pass. Both teams carved out good chances to takethe lead and with 3 minutes of the first half remaining Gaz Newitt drove the ball home after after his initial shot came back off the cross bar to give the Mavericks a slim lead at the break. The U14's had to work hard to return from Knottingley with maximum points. In the first half Knottingley dominated and deservedly took the lead midway through the half and only some good defensive displays from Ashley Holling, Josh Key and Nathan Wrightstopped Knottingley from adding to their lead and kept the Mavericks in the game at the break. The Mavericks started the second half in good form with Thomas Foster sliding the ball into the box for Gareth Newitt who duly beat the keeper .The Mavericks then took the lead for the first time in the game when Callum Hewitt twisted and turned his way into the box and poked the ball past the keeper. This spurred Knottingley on and they again started to dominate proceedings but some stout defending and a top drawer save from man of the match Callan Pettinger ensured the Mavericks returned with a battling away victory. |

U15's 2 v 4 Normanton Juniors
A superb team performance went unrewarded against table toppers Normanton Juniors. An unbeaten run of 4 games came to an end as a strong Normanton team took a 3-0 lead inside the first 25 minutes. The Mavericks never say die attitude saw them get back into the game as a Jamie Sutton pass was fired past the helpless keeper by James Shirtliff. In the first minute of the second half the Mavericks got the score back to 3-2 after a long through ball from Luke Marsden was converted by Shirtliff for his second of the game. The Mavericks pressed for the equaliser but Normanton broke on the counter attack to make the score 4-2. The Mavericks continues to dominate with Marsden having a shot brilliantly saved and Rikki Paylor hitting the cross bar. A great performance went unrewarded but the players left the field with their heads held high. |

The Under 9's unbeaten start to 2008 continued with two victories at home to Thornes.
The Yellow Team had a 3-0 win. It was a scrappy start to the game but the Yellows got their noses in front. From a corner the ball was cleared to Matthew Barraclough, who struck the ball perfectly and it flew in the net just under the crossbar. The home side went further into the lead five minutes before half time Lee Jordan scored from a Harry Andrews cross field pass. After the break the away side tried in vain to get into the game but found Jordan Bond again in fine form. He produced a magnificent double save. Lee Jordan turned provider for our third goal. He crossed from the left wing and the ball fell straight into the path of the onrushing Owen Wildblood. He slotted home with real finesse. Man of the Match was left winger Lee Jordan. He scored and made a goal in the match.

The Green Team also didn't concede in a 2-0 win. The damage was done in the first half. Zach Dawson was the goal scorer. He grabbed both goals in the sides win. The match took quite a while to get going. Both teams looked well off the pace. However Zach Dawson received Joe Braithwaite's pass to find the corner of the net. Shortly afterwards the home side made it 2-0. A poor clearance from the Thornes defence was picked up by Dawson, who again found the net. The away side tried to find a way into the gamebut their finishing was a little off target. Defender Lee Hinchcliffe scooped the Green Team Man of the Match award .He made some good runs with the ball turning defence into attack.
The two victories moved The Mavericks back into second place in the league.

U14's 7 v 4 Normanton
The U14's maintained their great league form returning from 2nd placed Normanton with maximum points. In a thrilling first half the Mavericks took the lead on three occasions with Man of the Match Ben Vodden netting either side of a Ben Powers strike with the home team drawing level on each occasion. Matty Elvin smashed the ball into the roof of the net from a set piece to give the Mavericks a one goal lead at the break. In the second period the Mavericks started to dominate proceedings. Gareth Newitt's mazy run and cool finish opened up a two goal cushion, Callum Hewitt added another poking the ball past the keeper from close range. Matty Elvin got his second goal of the game from another set piece before Normanton pulled back a consolation goal just before the final whistle. The great team performance gives the U14's an eight point lead at the top of the table with six league matches remaining. |

The cup was priority for the U9's. They visited Wrenthorpe. The Yellow Team came away with a 1-0 win. The match was played at quite some pace. Both teams were looking to gain an advantage. Both keepers were forced into good saves. Mapplewell took the lead with a goal of the season contender. The home sides goal keeper miss-hit his kick .It went straight to Lee Jordan just in from the left touch line. He lobbed the ball back over the keeper and into the far corner of the net. The home team tried to get back into the game but was thwarted at every opportunity by the Mapplewell defence. Mapplewell tried in vain to edge further in front. Man of the Match was goalkeeper Jordan Bond. He produced several good saves including an outstanding double save in the first half.

The Green team had also to battle to gain a 3-3 draw. The home side took a very early lead. The Mavericks hit back through Zach Dawson. He got on the end of Joe Braithwaite's pass. The scoring swung one way and then the other, as both teams tried to gainan advantage. Mapplewell regained the lead through Joe Braithwaite. He too scored a great goal. This time he found the far corner from out on the right hand side of the pitch. Wrenthorpe hit back and regained the lead with two goals. As the time ticked by Mapplewell were becoming more desperate to get the leveler. They did this through Man of the Match Zach Dawson. Joe Braithwaite again supplying the pass. Mapplewell are now through to the semi-finals.

The Green Team had to come from a goal behind again. Matthew Davies was wrong footed as the ball spun into the far post. Zach Dawson found his shooting boots today by scoring the first three goals for the away side. His first two came from some hard workin midfield from Josh Neil. He won the ball in centre of the park before sliding it through for Dawson to finish in style. Sam Rolph won the ball in the defence and played a long ball over the home defenders for Dawson again to apply a super finish to get his hat-trick. Just before the end of the first half Zach Dawson became provider. This time supplying Ben Briggs to slot home. Into the second half and the home side tried in vain get anything from the game, but it was the Mavericks who grabbed a deserved fifth goal. Josh Neil fired in a free kick from just outside the penalty area. Man of the Match was Connor Remington, who had a fine game on the wing.

The U9's Boys traveled to South Kirkby Knights and returned with two more victories. The Yellow Team eased their way to a 4-0 success .the game swung back and forth with both keepers being forced into some good saves. Thomas Clare latched on to a Jordan Bond goal kick and put the ball passed the home keeper. The next two goals came again from Thomas Clare .Both the goals coming from assists from left winger Lee Jordan. South Kirkby were still trying to get some rewards from their quick breaking attacks. Jordan Bond was having a good day between the posts. The final goal came from Clare. This time it was all his own work that created the opening for him to finish emphatically. The four goal hero was named Man of the Match.

The U14's put in a great team performance to take all three points in there first versus third place clash against Castleford Town. The Mavericks started the brightest and took an early advantage with Tom Foster's through ball for Gareth Newitt who beat the keeper from close range. In what was becoming a very open game the visitors equalised midway through the first half, before Gareth Newitt again raced clear to give the U14's a slim one goal lead at the break.
In the second period the Mavericks came out all guns blazing. With great performances from Callum Hewitt , Jack Hattersley and man of the match Ben Powers the Mavericks started to dominate. Gareth Newitt proved too hot to handle adding 2 more goals before Sam Castle turned in Tom Foster's passto complete a great all round team performance.

The Yellow Team won 3-1 but had to work really hard to get their noses in front. The first half was evenly fought before Lee Jordan slotted home a knock back from Owen Wildblood. The U9's Greens had an easier time of it, winning 3-0. All the goals came in the first half. One player did the damage with a well deserved hat-trick, that player being top scorer Ben Briggs. His first came from good work by Zach Dawson, he picked up theball on the right wing and crossed for Briggs to tap home. Matthew Cox won a tackle in midfield and sent the hat trick hero away to power home. The third came again from Zach Dawson, this time from a corner.The visitors struggled to get any where near thehome teams goal. In the first half South Elmsall took full advantage of the blustery conditions taking the lead after 5 minutes. Some good defending from Ashley Holling, Nathan Wright and a confident display from keeper Callan Pettinger held the visitors to a one goal lead at half time. In the second half with the wind behind them the U14's started to dominate the game. The U9's Boys returned to winning ways after the Christmas break. Harry Andrews gathered a pass from Owen Wildblood to finish into the far corner to open the scoring.Jordan Bond made a fantastic save to keep the home sides lead. Shortly after the half time interval Wrenthorpe levelled, with a soft goal. The Mavericks then found some form. Thomas Clare made a mazy run down the pitch before finding Lee Jordan who then crossed for Joshua Neill to scramble the ball home.The goal of the game came from Thomas Clare. He picked up the ball in this own area and beat a number of defenders before finishing with a rasping shot into the corner of the goal. The Under 9 Boys Green Team won the game 5-1. Zach Dawson started the scoring off before then turning provider for Matthew Cox to touch the ball over the line. In between Wrenthorpe equalised. Zach Dawson score his 2nd and The Mavericks 3rd.An individualgoal from Joe Braithwaite made the score 4-1 Connor Remmington laid on the pass for Ben Briggs to score the fifth goal. Under14s 9 - 1 St Joseph Blues
Mapplewell started the new year on "Cloud Nine" with a comfortable victory over St Joseph Blues. On 8 minutes Gareth Newitt took full advantage of a poor clearance to open the scoring, before Matty Elvin's curling shot crept in at the foot of the post todouble the lead. Gareth Newitt then latched onto an Ashley Barraclough through ball to add the third, then a Callum Hewitt pass split the defence for Newitt to complete a first half hat-trick and give the Mavericks a four goal cushion at the break. In thesecond period the visitors started well and pulled a goal back but any chance of a come back was quashed with Newitt adding another three goals before Ben Vodden sprinted clear and beat the keeper from close range. Man of the match Sam Castle turned in acorner to complete the scoring and cap off a great team performance. |

The U9's Boys Green Team had another good day. They won 3-0. Ben Briggs was the goal scoring hero with a deserved hat-trick. He scored his first from a goal mouth scramble. Goalkeeper Matthew Davies was another hero. He produced two outstanding first halfsaves to keep the Mavericks in the game. In the second half Ben Briggs got two further goals, the latter was from a Joe Braithwaite corner. The home side was still piling on the pressure and again Matthew Davies stood tall in goal by producing quite a few good stops. He was determined he was going to keep a clean sheet. Ben Briggs and Matthew Davies were both named Man of the Match. |

The Under 9 Boys Yellow Team had very good day against Stanley.
They won 11(ELEVEN)-1. The scoring opened early with Thomas Clare scoring the first of his 4 goals.Harry Lockwood made it 2-0 with his first of the season.Lee Jordan supplied the pass forThomas Clare's second. Just before half-time Harry Andrew's scored with a very good individual effort making it 4-0. The second half started with Harry Lockwood taking over in goal from Jordan Bond. It wasn't long before he was on the scoresheet with 2 goals made by Thomas Clare and Lee Jordan. The score now being 6-0. Further goals from Thomas Clare and Lee Jordan brought the score to 8-0. Stanley got a consolation goal. Mapplewell finished off the game with further goals from Harry Andrews, Thomas Clareand Jordan Bond. Man of the Match was four goal hero Thomas Clare. He gave a massive performance not only by scoring but helping out in defence. |

U14's 4 v 1 Castleford Town
An excellent away performance saw the Mavericks return from Castleford with all three points from a top of the table clash. From the whistle Castleford were dominant and only a great defensive display from Matty Elvin, Ashley Holling and Thomas Foster kept the home team at bay. On the occasion that the defence was breached Callan Pettinger was on hand to make a great save. The Mavericks started the second period well forcing a corner in the opening minute which Kevin Dryden headed home. This spurred the Mavericks on and Gareth Newitt doubled the lead with a great run and shot. Castleford pulled a goal back but any hopes they had of salvaging something from the game were short lived when Gareth Newitts header was turned home by Callum Hewitt. The result was put beyond doubt when Gareth Newitt beat the offside trap and scored the Mavericks fourth goal a fine team performance maintained top spot for the Mavericks .Joint man of the match went to Thomas Foster and Callum Hewitt.

The second half started with Thornes scoring first. Lee Jordan then turned scorer with the goal to draw the match level.Debutant Joshua Neil supplying the pass. Thornes got their noses in front before adding a controversial fifth. The refereegave the goal but it wasn't clear if the ball had fully crossed the goal line.Man of the Match was Joshua Neil. |

The Green Team had a good day at the office as they notched six goals to one. The scoring began nearly straight from the kick off with Zach Dawson crossing a long ball from right to left for Matthew Cox to finish into the far corner of the net. Ben Briggsscored two further goals. He was set up on both occasions by Joe Braithwaite. Half time 3-0. The second half also started with an early Mavericks goal, this time Joe Braithwaite latched onto a poor goal kick from the visiting keeper to finish well into the bottom corner. Zach Dawson scored the fifth goal after been set clear by a pass from Sam Rolph. The Mavericks got a sixth through Thomas Hobson. His goal came from another poor clearance from the visitors defence. Thornes got a consolation goal late onin the match. The scoring finished with Mapplewell running out winners by six goals to one. Man of the Match was Matthew Cox. |

The Green Team had an off day in front of goal their front players doing everything but score .The Durkar Devils were thankful to their goalkeeper for keeping a clean sheet.The away side took their chances. The first goal came from a deflection which left stand in keeper Matthew Cox completely wrong-footed. Their second came from a goalmouth scramble of which Durkar managed to turn into the goal. The Green team kept pressing forward but to no avail. The man of the match was Sam Rolph, who was his usual dependable self. |

Mavericks Keeper Hungary For Success
Mavericks keeper Callan Pettinger who plays for the Under14s has been selected to play in an international tournament in Hungary. There he will test his skills against teams from Cento (Italy), Schwaebisch Gmund (Germany) and Szekesfehervar (Hungary) in the Fehervar Cup. Callan had to go through a series of trails to claim the Number 1 jersey to represent a Barnsley Schools boys team in the tournament. All his team mates wish him all the best in the tournament and a safe journey. |

Mapplewell Mavericks took maximum points from their first home game of the season against former division 1 outfit Carleton Juniors. The Mavericks dominated from the start and took the lead after 9 minutes when Gareth Newitt beat the keeper from close range, only the heroics of Carletons keeper denied Mapplewell from adding to the lead with a string of outstanding saves. In the 29 minute Gareth Newitt beat the offside trap and latched on to a Jack Hattersley through ball to give the Mavericks a deserved 2 goal lead at the break.

If they had more composure in front of goal the score line would have been far greater. Several good chances were wasted. A 5 star performance at Sherburn White Rose ensured maximum points for the Mavericks U14's in there first league game of the season.
The Mavericks took control from the whistle and after only 3 minutes good work from Gareth Newitt opened the way for Ben Vodden to smash the ball past the keeper. Vodden then became provider laying the ball off for Thomas Foster to beat the keeper from close range before Gareth Newitts strong run and finish made it 3 nil at the break.
In the second half the Maverickscontinued to dominate proceedings with fine displays from Ashley Barraclough and Josh Key .Man of the Match Jack Hattersley played Gareth Newitt in for his second before Nathan Wrights cross was volleyed home by Thomas Jackson .Two fine saves from CallanPettinger denied the home team a consolation goal and rounded of a great team performance and start to the season for the Mavericks U14.

First game of the season saw some excellent performances from all the team throughout the game. Excellent defending from Emily Thornton and Toni Whitehouse keep the visitors away from scoring. An excellent performance from Olivia McDaid controlled midfield.Great passing from Jessica Green to Danielle Green to make the score 1-0, good play from Bryony Hudson put Danielle Green through to score her second and a half time lead of 2-0. Second half Captain Hayley Smith kept the visitors at bay by pulling off some good saves. Nixon, Erskine and Sillance all contributed well to a much deserved win. Girl of the match was Danielle Green. |
