Introduction

This document has been written to assist you in updating the team database from the web site.

Details that you key into the web site will populate a database (not held on the web site) and the database will then in turn update the web site. It is important to realize that the details are posted to an off line database and therefore the results are not posted instantly.

So REMEMBER the data that you will add will ONLY appear on the website the next time it updates. Their will be more on that important point later.

If the concept of a full team entry system works we will look to develop a true on line system for 2008/2009 Season.

Getting Started

You will need your own Username and password - David Barraclough, Dave Rolph or David Paylor can organize these details.

Go to the web site www.themavericks.co.uk and click the Login Menu option (as shown below).

See the screenshot below. Click into the Username and type your Username and then click into the password and type your password then click the grey logon button.

Team menu (Example)

Simply click the menu of the item you wish to enter / update.

Important notes for entering
You must read each of the help topics for entering specific details as they are all slightly different but when entering any form you must ensure

1    -        Never use the enter key while keying data unless you are finished. If you press the enter key prior to entering your validation key you                     will be presented with a red screen prompting you to press the back button on your browser and enter your validation key.

Use the tab key or your mouse
to skip between entries.

2    -        Ensure that your validation key is correct before you submit.

IMPORTANT: If you enter a wrong validation key your data will NOT be added to the database and you will NOT be notified. So take care when entering your validation key.

Details of the validation key here

3    -        Double check all entries before you submit

4    -        REMEMBER the data that you will add will ONLY appear on the website the next time it updates.

Player Admin

From here you can add new players, update player details and remove a player who has left the team.

Please note that the system will allocate a player ID and this will be allocated and used for the season (and likely future seasons) so it is important that you :

1 - Do not replace a different players details over the top of a player.

2 - Do not enter anything in the player ID column - you will notice that after you have added a player and the database has later processed the data that the Player ID will be present automatically.

Enter the players forename and surname as a minimum, if you have it you can also add the Date of Birth (dd/mm/yyyy).

After a player has been added and been given a Player ID you can simply add or amend the Date of Birth or remove the tick in the active box to remove the player from the team (if a player leaves your team mid season for example).

Once you have finished, and you have double checked your entry and entered your validation key click the submit button to send the data to the database.

If you need help with Validation Key Click Here

REMEMBER. The data you have just added will ONLY appear on the website when the database next updates.

You will also get the above reminder (as part of the confirmation screen) that the data you have input will not appear straight away on the website.

Opponents

Opponents must be entered before match details and results can be added, it is suggested you key all the opponents at the start of the season and then any additional teams in advance of cup matches.

You can add new teams by simply entering the name in the white box (start from the top of the page and work down). If you make a mistake  after submitting the opponent details (spelling for example) you can simply retype over the incorrectly spelt entry and the last opponent sheet you submit will be the one used.

Once you have finished and you have double checked your entry and entered your validation key click the submit button to send the data to the database.

If you need help with Validation Key Click Here

REMEMBER. The data you have just added will ONLY appear on the website when the database next updates.

You will also get the above reminder (as part of the confirmation screen) that the data you have input will not appear straight away on the website.

Matches

Important : Matches can only be added after Opponents have been added.

In the Match Administration menu you can add matches and amend them for your team. First add the match date (dd/mm/yyyy) then choose the opponents from the drop down box. If the opponents you require are not present in the drop down box then you need to go back and add them in the Opponents menu.

Next you need to choose the Ground from the drop down box (Home,Away etc) and if it's a Cup match put a check in the Cup box.

You also have the option to amend a match in two ways. In the Amend Match section you can simply add or remove a check mark to the Cup box to change the games Cup status or remove the check mark in the Active box for a particular game to remove the game from the website (This would be useful if the game has been postponed for example).

Once you have finished and you have double checked your entry and entered your validation key click the submit button to send the data to the database.

If you need help with Validation Key Click Here

REMEMBER. The data you have just added will ONLY appear on the website when the database next updates.

Match Results

To enter the results you must NOT touch the Team ID - this will be populated for you.

Enter the Match Date with full UK date format DD/MM/YYYY example 31/01/2007.

Enter your score and then the opponents score.

Each of your players will be listed - if a player is missing then you have not waited enough time from entering the player details, please wait for the next update before you continue - you might wish to try and click the refresh button in your browser to re-load the page.

Like the team ID you should NOT enter anything in the player ID - the system has allocated these for you and it should remain with the player.

Enter the goals scored by the player and number of assists.

You should only choose one Man of the Match (MOM) even though the form would actually let you choose more than one !

All players by default are marked as started - if a player does not start a match but comes on as a sub un-tick the started box and tick the Sub box.

If a player does not play un-tick the played box.

Once you have finished, you have double checked your entry and entered your validation key click the submit button to send the data to the database.

News

This section has been designed so that you can add important news to the title bar (top right hand side), you have 6 lines you can enter but this can be many lines of news, using the pipe character "|" you can add line breaks.

The pipe character can usually be found next to the left hand shift key on your keyboard (you will need to hold down the shift key to get this character).

We have made the news page as easy to use as it can be but the trick is to experiment.

In the first line you will see that a default first line appears - you can change this but it will also give you an idea how the pipe character can be used.

Pause You can change the length of time that each section pauses - this is in milliseconds - the default is 2000 (2 seconds)
Column1 (news) Enter your text in here - please do not use the ' character or "
Column2 (link) If you want the news text to link to another page you can enter it in here.

You may need to ask me - dave@rolph.com for page names !

Some Examples of linked pages are listed below.
Column3 (Target) If you enter a linked page from Column2 then you should also specify which frame or window it should appear in, this is important to get the look and feel of the site right.

Link examples

Page Link Target

Under 9's Page 0708/M001.htm _top

Validation Key

The validation key is an added security item created for entry forms, if you enter results with an incorrect validation key your results will not be entered into the database.

This is the best way we can protect the data that you enter, if you forget your key please contact us.

Important :

If you enter details without a valid key you will not be informed - the data will simply not be entered into the master database.

It is vital that you check your entire entry before you click the submit button !

Web Master Menu

Only Web Masters have access to this menu. Individual team managers have access only to their own team page.

From this menu the options are quite self explanatory, but you must remember that when you have keyed information into this it will not update the web site instantly, the database will need to be run in order to take the information you key and upload it back in a web page format.
