AGM Chairman Notes

SEASON SUMMARY

The new season started once again with the Players Registration night which was a great success. It did though bring to light that the Under 11’s were to leave the Mavericks which they did so before the start of the new season.

We formed our 7th team during the summer of 2007 as the Under 9 Girls split into the Under 9 & Under 10 Girls. The Under 9’s to be managed by Jason Smith and the Under 10’s to be managed by Paul Bessell. At the end of the season Paul left his position and handed over to Terri Wilson.

The seven teams played within the Charles Rice League and also the West Riding Girls League. The Under 9 Boys swapped leagues just before the start of the season as the Millennium League could not guarantee the number of teams entering.

The Club won two trophies this season with the Under 14’s finishing Division Two champions getting promoted to the top flight and also the Under 9 Boys winning the League Cup.

The standard of football has once again improved all round with both Owen Wildblood and Thomas Clare being signed on by Academies. Numerous scouts from across the north of England from Barnsley to Leeds to Sheffield to Blackburn have been to watch Maverick games this season. The Mavericks have a growing reputation for good football which is the reason why scouts come to watch the games.

In March/April a new Under 6 team was started and all being well they shall be entering into a league for the upcoming season.

Next weekend sees the very first Mapplewell Mavericks Tournament and lets hope that the weather is good and everyone enjoys the day.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

Personally I think that the Presentation Night this year was the best ever, with the time on stage for each team being kept to a sensible and fair level which resulted in continued interest being shown by all. Also being on a Sunday resulted in less alcohol therefore less noise from individuals. Once again the trophies were excellent and having seen other Club’s trophies I think that once again we have done the kids proud. I would like to thank Julie for organising Howard Webb to attend the event, which was fantastic.

FINANCES

We introduced a new Subscription rate this season of £14 per month for every player and a 70% // 30% split between Club and Team. This seems to have been received well and come the end of the season has shown each team exactly what money they have in their “kitty”. The Club this season have roughly spent what it has generated. This therefore shows that the Club is pumping all the money back into the helping to improve all aspects of Club and therefore your kids.

CHARTER STANDARD

The Club renewed their Charter Standard status this season for a further 3 seasons which is fantastic news. We will be looking at Level 1 courses for the manager’s so that we can continue to develop the coaching aspects of the Club.

CLUB MEETINGS

Although the meetings were well attended this season it is important that if parents have views on any aspect of the Club they should attend a meeting to put their point across. Once again this year there have been certain “issues” but parents have not attended meetings to make them known. Only at these meetings can changes be discussed and implemented.

THANKS

I would like to thank all of the players, families and supporters that have attended games this season. I would also like to thank all of the Managers and Coaches and also the helpers in each of the teams. Thanks to Dave Rolph and Dave Barraclough for their continued work on the web site which is one of the best around.

I would like to thank the Management Committee for all of there assistance this season as it has often been difficult off the field this season.

The Club would also like to thank Terri Wilson, Nigel and Marie Cox, Terry and Bev Smith, Simon Davies, Dave Rolph, Dave Barraclough and Julie Erskine for their assistance during the course of this season. Without “new blood” it is difficult for the Club to move forward.

SUMMARY

Overall the 2007/8 season has been a good one both on and off the field and I am sure that the Club will continue to develop in the correct manner, supporting kids for the surrounding areas.
